See You Later, Alligator (1956)

1) Crazy Sam's mother is terrified of alligators. Just looking at a photo of one of those scaly reptiles gives her the creeps. Is there a member of the animal kingdom that scares you?

Large spiders and snakes.

2) Gators are carnivores, but they aren't picky. If meat isn't handy, they'll munch on fruit. Are you particular about your diet? For example, do you try to eat gluten free, low sodium, etc.?

I have to, because the medics want me to.
Sugar-poor, low sodium, low protein, low fat....But I eat...

3) In Spain, this song was a hit under the title, "Hasta Luego, Cocodrilo." Say something else in Spanish.

I thought of something , but it was italian. So: hasta la vista.

4) When this week's artist, Bill Haley, was a little boy, he made a guitar out of cardboard and pretended to play that until his parents got him a real one. Tell us about something you wanted so badly when you were a kid.

I wanted to play bagpipes. So I tried to make them, which didn't work out. Now I play bagpipes on a real highland bagpipe or smallpipes.

5) Early in his career, Bill did whatever it took to get the gig. When singing cowboys were popular, the Michigan native pretended to be a cowpoke and renamed himself, "Silver Yodeling Bill." Have you ever fudged on your resume or fibbed in an interview?

No. Why should I?

6) When his career was going well, Bill was generous and loved to give extravagant parties at his home, which he called Melody Manor. Do you enjoy playing the host?

Yes, I did. But when I got kids it was over.

7) Bill was blind in one eye, the result of a botched operation when he was a child. Since the blind eye wandered and didn't focus, he always wore a curl over the opposite eye, hoping to draw everyone's attention to the other side of his face. What is there about your appearance that leaves you self conscious?

8) On the other hand, what is it about your appearance that pleases you, and that you would never change?

Give me ten years to think about that.....

9) In 1956, when this song was a hit, Elvis Presley exploded onto the music scene and displaced Bill as rock's top artist. The press and public assumed Bill was jealous of Elvis, but in reality he liked Elvis a great deal. Are you jealous by nature?

No, and that saved me a lot of trouble.

Have a great weekend!

So today I had an appointment with our GP. This time for me.

After 5 weeks of twice a week a B12 shot I feel some improvement. The tingling in my fingers has disappeared, they feel less numb, and the toes of my left feet show some feeling again. I feel a bit more energy and less brainfog. Also my eyesight is more stable and there are less blurry episodes.
So that's great!

The protocols of treatment in different countries are different.
In The Netherlands they're mainly 3 to 5 years behind, because medics are not always aware of developments abroad, and we have the culture of wanting to proof things ourselves. So even when there is enough proof in America and England the Dutch are suprised and start a pilot study, done by students. When that shows the expected results, more research is done before the protocol is changed.

After a discussion on monday for my daughter's treatment, I didn't expect any flexibility.
He said before: 5 weeks with 2 shots a week and after that shots with wider intervals, so I was prepared to talk against a stubborn man.

Instead he asked me what I wanted: "another series of shots twice a week, because the neurological symptoms show some improvement and the improvement hasn't stopped".
"So you want us to follow your protocol", he said with a smile.
"It's not MY protocol!! It's in writings of the GP organisation itself, already in 2010 or 2012... but I doubt if someone has seen it."
"Is that true?"
"If I want to tell your stories, I'll come by after working hours, so you can doze off..." And I smiled.

"OK, we'll do that.... the 5 weeks, I mean."

I was so amazed!

Then I asked? "And how about magnesium to the D?"
He doesn't know anything about it, so he said "no".
So I told him why it is important to take magnesium when you take vitamin D, and K2, which is in my case, with my heartmedication, not a wise thing to do.
He said "no".
So I talked more, about scientific research I've been reading, and ended: "so you see it's important to know about this part of medical treatment.
You know, I can go over the border, buy magnesium for a few euro's en take it without you knowing.
I said I would play the healthgame open as long as you would seriously consider my proposals."
"Would you buy...?"
"Yes, why not? I know what to take and what not, so why not take a few euro and do cheap shopping and take what I want from the shelves in the supermarket there.....?
"So what do we do?"
"Next time?" He said with a smile and a twinkling in his eyes.
"Gotcha, next time it is."
"And in the meantime you write me an overview article about the area."

So it was like in the old days.
We used to be friends and collegues and he regularly asked me to give my scientific opinion about a subject.
I provided him with a good overview so he wouldn't have to spend too much time on studying scientific literature.

I left with a joke and a smile.
He joked too and we all had a good laugh.

So 5 weeks of shots it is.....

Friday 5: Upper body

1. What’s got you scratching your head?

Quite a lot, I realize.
People talking behind backs, people telling tales, dishonesty

2. What’s the big news in your neck of the woods?

Right now...hmmm.... nothing special. There's a lot to do about asylumseekers and fugitives at the moment.
There's moving out of the temporary buildings, because there's an event planned and the buildings are needed for a kind of paralympics. But it's not something we witness here. It's just newspaperstuff for us.

3. What has everyone else raising an eyebrow, but is only getting a shrug of the shoulders out of you?

What a difficult question.
There has been so many people in my life with so many different behaviours, that I'm not surprised easily.
I react quite calm on things.

4. What are you keeping an eye on?

Right now... on medical research regarding diabetes and hearfailure. There's so much bad research and so much nonsense told to people. Like at the moment that diabetes can be cured by eating fats instead of carbohydrates, or that loosing weight cures diabetes.

5. What’s something you’ve done an about-face on recently?

About-face means changing your mind?

I've changed my mind about my GP. He's not keeping up with recent medical developments. That's not him. Or is it? I think his age is catching up with him. I always thought he was a good tutor, but now I'm starting to have my doubts.

Have a great weekend.

FortyFive Seconds (2015)

1) The very bad day described in this song began promisingly enough. The lyrics tells us, "Woke up an optimist, sun was shining, I'm positive." How did your day begin?

Far too early by one of my daughters who had overslept. She claimed all her three alarms didn't work. I think she forgot them last evening.

2) This song refers to Monday morning. What's on your plate for Monday?

Don't know yet. But I have the flu, so it'll be laundry and cleaning the house with a stuffed nose, sneezing and coughing.

3) The lyrics request, "promise you'll pay my bail." Have you ever had to bail anyone out of jail? (Or have you been bailed out?)

No. Don't even know if the have a bail-system in my country.

4) Rihanna gets top billing in this all-star trio. She says that when she was a little girl, she used to walk around singing "A Whole New World" from Disney's Aladdin. What's your favorite song from a Disney movie?

I don't have a Disney favorite.

5) Rihanna dated outfielder Matt Kemp when he was with the LA Dodgers. Opening Day is less than a month away. Are you a baseball fan?

No. But here in The Netherlands baseball is no item at all.

6) Kanye West also sings on this week's song. When he was a little boy, he spent a year in China with his mother. Have you ever lived overseas (as opposed to just visiting on vacation)?

Not really. But when I stayed in England it became my home. Does that count?

7) Mr.West is part owner of the Fatburger chain. Do you like grilled onions on your burger?

I don't often get a burger, but I'm OK with unions. I like the red ones most, raw.

8) This week's third artist, Paul McCartney, is a vegetarian. Think about your most recent meal. Did it include chicken, pork, or beef? Eggs or dairy?

Well, there are always traces of dairy in a meal. I don't eat eggs, as I've got a metabolic problem and I should keep a close watch on proteins. We don't eat beef often, and I don't like chicken anymore.
But I don't consider myself a vegetarian.

9) Paul was born at 2:00 PM on a Thursday. Do you know what day of the week you were born? Do you know the exact time?

It was a friday. The I think it was half past 4 or 5 in the morning.

Friday 5: Therapy

1. How is a therapeutic shower or bath different from a utilitarian shower or bath?

I think you mean that there is a difference between taking a quick shower and taking the time to enjoy the experience.
Well, in fact I have hardly the time to shower.
But I always make a choice from my row of showergels, now my skin is getting so dry.
So even when it's a few minutes for the whole thing I'll have a nice smell afterwards.

2. What are your therapy foods? Do you have different kinds of therapy foods for different kinds of emotional situations?

I love blueberries, applepie and such. I don't have different foods for different emotions.
Often I don't have foods, so it's just coffee.

3. What physical activities are especially therapeutic?

Ballet is my best therapy. But alas. I can't do what I want to do due to my heartproblems.
But I can do Tai Chi. I like that too, but I can put less creativity in it.

4. When seeking the company of others for therapy, is it better to talk about the issue that’s causing you stress, or to talk about anything else?

Everything that diverts the attention is OK. That's why retail therapy has such a good influence on people (even though not on their wallet).
Some issues can't be solved, so it's OK for me to talk about other things, and best is: humor.

5. Sometimes therapy is about maintenance, not crisis. What regular activities do you pursue for therapeutic maintenance?

*** sigh ***. Oh yes, there is some maintenance to do, but there's not enough time.
I would love to have a dog. A beagle. But buying one is far more expensive than a year ago. So I don't see that happen in the near future, even though I keep a close watch on the rescue dogs.
I love gardening, but the fun has been taken out of that last year too.
So I go for a coffee to a friend, try to blog a bit, watch some TV.
I also would like to make more music, but I don't want to disturb the neighbours and make things for the dollhouses I have.

Have a great weekend.
