Utility Knife

A friend called today and asked if she was welcome for a few moments, because she had a question.

When she arrived I opened the front door and let her step into our small hall.
Before I could open the door to the livingroom she whispered: "What is a
utility knife?"
I looked at her full of surprise.
"What do you mean?"
"You've got boys, you know.. They use all sorts of things and I don't know what a utility knife is, and I feel so stupid."

So I told her it's a knife which is made for a special purpose, most of the time for more than one purpose. Like for opening boxes, or slicing perspex.

Then we went into the room and I showed the knife I've got in a drawer and which is used at our home to cut vinyl flooring and a lot of other things.

"Oh", she said. "That thing!
How on earth do you get that trapezium blade in?"
So I showed her, and told her that I didn't know how to do it a while ago, but that I found a video on a site that demonstrated how to do it."

She was quite relieved she could to it too.
Turned out her husband and sons had made fun of the fact that she didn't know anything about those safety knives

Well, she'll surprise them both, I'm sure of that!
